Nebraska is devastated yearly by tornadoes, torrential rain, hail and high winds throughout the severe weather season. These disasters can disrupt lives and impact communities, and needs of those people affected are often unique and unmet. Disaster Relief specialist Ashley Mueller and the Nebraska Extension staff are positioned to engage in local emergency management planning and to facilitate processes to strengthen relationships among community organizations before disaster strikes.
Extension’s disaster relief program areas are well placed to draw upon internal and external resources and coordinate effective Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) with assistance from the Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN.) This project was prepared and produced by AESC minor, Megan Engels, for use in UNL’s Streaming Science educational materials.
