What is all the Buzz about?
Meet scientists working at the UF/IFAS Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory!
In these electronic field trips live streamed in November 2021, students learned about the importance of bees and some of the research scientists conduct at the Honey Bee Lab. Watch the recordings to explore the equipment and bee colonies that are paving the way for the future of apiculture.

Hey Honey, Bee Ready to Learn
Who? Middle and High School Students.
What? A live, free, interactive, electronic field trip to connect students with pollinators and scientists working at the University of Florida.
When? There were four options to tune in: Thursday, November 4th at 10 am and 2 pm EST and Thursday, November 18 at 10 am and 2 pm EST.
How? The electronic field trips were streamed for approximately 45 minutes.
Why? To learn all about pollinators, the work of scientists, and how pollinators impact our food supply!
Meet the Scientists
Amy Vu
Amy Vu is the Extension coordinator for the Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab, where she oversees all Extension activities. She runs the University of Florida Master Beekeeper Program, the University of Florida Bee Colleges, UF IFAS Honey Bee Blog, speaker requests, media inquiries, and the lab’s social media pages.
Chris Oster
Chris Oster is the Lab Manager for the Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab. In this position he oversees all of the day-to-day operations that help to keep the lab running that help to keep the lab running including precuring materials to be used in in research, coordinating between HBREL and outside vendors, coordinating volunteers, and maintaining lab equipment.
Cameron Jack
Dr. Cameron Jack is an Assistant Professor in the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida. Cameron seeks to improve the beekeeping industry through both instruction and research.
Jamie Ellis
Dr. Jamie Ellis is the Gahan Endowed Professor of Entomology in the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida. At the University of Florida, Ellis has responsibilities in extension, instruction and research related to honey bees.
