Stepping Outside the Classroom

Uncommon Classroom Experience

University of Florida (UF) Honors Program Uncommon Classroom undergraduate students traveled to the UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station in Cedar Key, FL in the fall 2023 semester to learn about coastal conservation. Their trip came soon after Hurricane Idalia moved through the area. UF Department of Agricultural Education and Communication faculty Drs. Lisa Lundy and Jamie Loizzo collaborated with the Honors College and NCBS experts to pilot the program. AEC graduate students Marisa Crowhurst and Kyleigh Hilburn served as teaching and research assistants for the project. Learn more about the program in Crowhurst’s story below, and view the undergraduate honors students’ science communication projects about their coastal conservation learning.
